Healthy fight 101: Potato vs Sweet potato

Many of you ask themselves if sweet potato is healthier than potato or the opposite. You are not actually sure.

That’s why we’re engaging ourselves in this healthy fight ! But before the fight, let’s see if both are healthy !

 

Are Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes healthy?

This question can be obvious. But still let’s answer it correctly and tell you why.

Both of them are healthy. They come from mother nature. If they are not created by GMO they can be super healthy. They are primary food that we – as humans – have been using for long to feed ourselves.

Potatoes in general are good sources of carbs filled with other great nutrients. Also, they could be counted at veggies. Nonetheless, you need to eat more vegetables to mention that you’re eating healthy and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Note that both are good sources of potassium which they can contain even more than bananas. The good thing : they are both Gluten free. Which make them great healthy Carbs (energy).

Ok now that we know that potatoes are both healthy let’s move to each other and fight for the right. Who’s going to win this tight duel then?

Potatoes:

One medium baked potato is only around 115 calories, containing 27 grams of carbs.  Around 2 to 3 grams of protein, 4 to 5 grams of fibre. Around 1 gram of sugar. They are rich in Vitamin B and C, and Potassium as seen.

Sweet Potatoes:

Compared to his cousin, 1 medium baked sweet potatoes, is also only around 115 calories, 24 grams of carbs. 2 to 3 grams of protein. 4 grams of fibres. And on their 24 grams of carbs, they contain around 7 grams of sugar. Hum, that’s why we called them sweeeet ! They contain vitamins and minerals as well, like Vitamin A, B and C, potassium and choline.

Because of their orange colours, sweet potatoes contain Vitamin A like carrots.

Why some might say they are not healthy ?

Hum, chips, crisps, and others, are not healthy but why is that so?

Because fat has been added on it. Of course, if there is too much oil and salt on it, they are not healthy and could even be harmful to the body.

But as seen, as long as you just eat them without adding too much bad stuff in it. They are good, so don’t deprive yourself and enjoy them.

Conclusion – who win the healthy fight?

What mother nature gives is mostly all the time healthy as long as us, humans, we do not add products or things on it.

As seen, all potatoes are healthy. Check the sources and try to have some organic with no GMO to have them supra healthy.

Mix them in your week as much as you like, they will give you good energy for you to stay healthy. Therefore, they both win!

The sweet ones contain more sugar but have Vitamin A and can have different minerals into like choline.
